i needed space pretty quickly and found general self storage after searching for storages near me. i'll be honest i did almost second guess it after seeing a negative review but i was in a rush and it was close so i decided to go in and see the place for myself.
i'm really glad i did. the staff was lovely to deal with and made the whole thing much easier than i expected. i even got a deal on a 3x3 for only $99 on the spot!!
i also made a point of checking the bathroom while i was there. i don't really use public bathrooms but i was still curious. it was midday when i took these photos so take from that what you will.
in retrospect, i think respect goes both ways. my experience with was very positive and i'm really glad i gave them a chance. i would happily recommend this place to anyone needing storage in the area.

The building is very clean but they need to provide more trolleys. I visited the Southport facility on Friday and there were no trolleys at all??
Accordingly, I couldn't move some things to my car. Very inconvenient!

The frustrating part about my experience at General Self Storage is that the treatment you get seems to depend entirely on whether the manager likes you or not.
If everything’s going smoothly, he can be friendly enough. But the moment there’s an issue, the attitude changes completely and the way he speaks to people becomes rude, confrontational, and unnecessarily aggressive. Running a professional business means treating ALL customers with basic respect, not picking and choosing who gets spoken to properly.
To be fair, I’ll admit one situation started because I had some items outside my unit while I’d been loading up all morning trying to run my business. I left briefly to grab food and came back to being spoken to like I’d done something unforgivable. The units around me were empty, I wasn’t blocking anyone, and I wasn’t causing damage or trouble. A simple polite conversation would’ve been enough, but instead I was spoken to disrespectfully. After that, the attitude towards me completely changed.
I also witnessed similar behaviour towards other customers while I was there.
On top of that, the toilets were consistently filthy. I genuinely don’t believe they were properly cleaned the entire time I rented there, and I have photos to back it up. Oddly enough, the rest of the facility is generally kept tidy and secure, so the lack of cleanliness in shared amenities stands out even more.
The facility itself has potential, and most of the other staff were fine. But management attitude and customer treatment ruined the experience for me and is ultimately why I moved my belongings elsewhere.

The service is of an extremely high standard, I rang a few places comparing prices and they didn't come close. Gary, who answered my enquire was transparent with what they were offering even emailed me the details of options and which I hadn't committed yet..That was impressive, going that extra mile in service. What General Sell Storage offer is better money for value, professionalism and a week later even after I had signed up and Gary came out of the office to see if I had settled in ok. Extra mile again, I recommend this business to those seeking temporary storage, but need to deal with trust worthy people. These are your people.

The Manager is very courteous and isn’t trying to bill you for any discrepancies of any kind, unlike other major facilities nearby.
Modern, clean facility with alarms on unit doors as well as other security, so your stuff is safe.
Store has all you need for packaging. Bathrooms and vending machine on site.

I had to move last minute and wasn’t sure how long I would need storage for, Gary was incredibly accommodating and made it really easy to adjust my move in and move out date.
The facility itself is modern and new, easy to navigate and feels very safe and secure.
I couldn’t recommend them enough, definitely the best prices and service on the Gold Coast!
